The development and evaluation of txtpēpi: A mHealth maternal and child health programme

The evidence for mHealth approaches in the delivery of public health messages is growing. The pregnancy and postnatal periods present a key opportunity to improve maternal health and future child health. This talk will describe the development process of a culturally tailored mHealth programme. txtpēpi is an individually tailored and personalised text message programme providing free information and support to māmā (mothers) and whānau (family members) during pregnancy and the first two years. txtpēpi was rolled out in February 2021. Evaluation of the programme’s effectiveness on key infant and child indicators was undertaken alongside an assessment of the acceptability of the programme from end-user and stakeholder perspectives.
